Currently White Rose Racing has 9 active members on the team. The riders are split among three cycling category; men's levels 3, 4 and women's 4. In addition, the team members will train on average 5 days a week in the winter and 4 days in the summer with 2 days of racing on weekends.
While training for races, White Rose Racing will ride through nearly all of York County, also including Lancaster, Adams, Dauphin, Cumberland and Lebanon. Most rides averaging between 40 and 60 miles (2 to 4 hours) per training ride. This doesn't include the races themselves and the results from those races. The team members each log on average 4 to 5 thousand miles over the course of a calendar year.
Team members also do several local recreational rides such as the Lancaster Cover Bridge (over 2,500 participants in '03) and the local York Double Creek ride. Members also work at local gyms as personal trainers, spinning class instructors, ice hockey and running in order to stay in race form.
The team members also will be working closely with the Bureau of Health, City of York this year. The goal will be to work with the city's youth to promote health and safety while cycling. This will include safety rodeos, health tips, bike maintenance and group rides. Working with our other major sponsor the Healthy York County Coalition will be helping with the Shape Up PA program more information to come on how to register.
